Per object, not per museum

Image rights

Museums do not hold one licence. They hold thousands of individual rights positions, and a collection API will happily hand you an in-copyright photograph next to a public-domain painting. So rights are evaluated for each object, from the statement its own museum published, and anything unclear is excluded rather than guessed at.

Licences we play

IdentifierLicence
cc0CC0 1.0
pdmPublic Domain Mark 1.0
cc-byCC BY 4.0
cc-by-saCC BY-SA 4.0

Attribution is shown on every reveal, with a link to the object at its museum, which satisfies the attribution terms these licences carry.

Licences we refuse

IdentifierWhy
cc-by-ncNonCommercial
cc-by-nc-ndNonCommercial + NoDerivatives
cc-by-nc-saNonCommercial
cc-by-ndNoDerivatives
incin copyright
inc-eduin copyright, educational use only
oglOpen Government Licence (not reviewed)
oplOpen Parliament Licence (not reviewed)

NonCommercial terms are refused because this product intends to carry advertising eventually, and a licence that would forbid that later forbids it now. NoDerivatives is refused because the game crops and resizes. An unrecognised statement is not a permissive one.

If you hold rights in something here and believe it should not be, the object page linked from every reveal identifies it exactly.
